The Crossroads is a thrilling children's novel written by Chris Grabenstein. It's his very first book for young readers, and it takes you on a spooky adventure!

A Spooky New Home

The story begins when Zack Jennings, his dad, and his new stepmom Judy move to a new house. This house is in his father's old hometown in Connecticut. What they don't know is that their new home has a very dark past.

The Crossroads Accident

About fifty years before Zack moved in, a terrible accident happened nearby. A driver caused a huge crash at a place called the crossroads. This accident sadly caused many people to lose their lives. The driver also died when his car crashed into a tree. This very tree is now in Zack's backyard!

The Spirit's Release

Since that tragic day, a spooky spirit has been trapped inside the tree. One day, a huge storm hits, and lightning strikes the old tree. This lightning strike sets the spirit free! Now, the spirit is looking for the families of those involved in the accident. Zack is one of the first people the spirit targets, because his own grandfather was connected to the original event.

Listen to the Story

An audiobook version of The Crossroads is available. An audiobook is like a book you listen to, read aloud by someone. This one is read by J.J. Myers, who is the author's wife. It was first sold in America on May 27, 2008. J. J. Myers even won a special "Headphones award" from AudioFile magazine for her excellent reading of the book.

More Adventures

If you enjoy The Crossroads, you'll be happy to know there are more books in the series! Chris Grabenstein wrote three sequels that continue the story:

  • The Hanging Hill
  • The Smoky Corridor
  • The Black Heart Crypt
