The Daily Mirror's History

How the Newspaper Started

The Daily Mirror began its journey in 1941. Its founder, Ezra Norton, had a vision for a new afternoon paper. He worked hard to make it happen. Getting a license during wartime was a big deal. It showed how important newspapers were considered.

Changes in Ownership

In October 1958, Ezra Norton and his business partners decided to sell their newspapers. They sold them to a company called the Fairfax Group. But the Fairfax Group quickly sold The Daily Mirror to another company, News Limited. This change meant new owners for the paper.

Merging with Another Paper

On October 8, 1990, The Daily Mirror joined with another newspaper. This was its sister paper, The Daily Telegraph, which was a morning paper. They combined to form a new newspaper called The Daily Telegraph-Mirror.

Later, in 1996, the name changed again. It went back to just The Daily Telegraph. This meant that the name Daily Mirror was no longer used. It marked the end of an era for the original newspaper.
