How It Started
In 2004, a man named Scott O’Brien and his wife, Kelly, had an idea. They wanted to create a new, exciting version of old murder mystery shows. They gathered a small group of actors who were good at improvisation. They wrote their own scripts, sometimes based on real unsolved cases. The first shows began in 2004 at a restaurant in Culver City, California.
As more people wanted to see their shows, The Dinner Detective grew. In 2006, they opened a second location in Orange County, California. A year later, in 2007, they opened a third spot in Long Beach, California. By January 2008, the first franchise opened in Boulder, Colorado. Since 2009, The Dinner Detective has opened over 80 locations across the country.
How The Company Works
The main offices for The Dinner Detective are in Colorado. Each location hires and trains local actors. These actors perform in both public and private shows. Through its special system, The Dinner Detective has set up offices in more than 80 cities throughout the United States.
Public Shows for Everyone
Public shows are usually held in hotels. They can also happen in restaurants, banquet halls, or theaters. These shows last about three hours. During this time, the audience watches an interactive murder mystery. They also get a three or four-course meal served to them.
