The Friend is a super fun magazine made just for kids! It comes out every month and is published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It's mostly for children aged 3 to 12, which is the same age range as kids who go to Primary classes at church.
About The Friend Magazine
The Friend magazine is packed with cool stuff! Each issue has inspiring messages from church leaders, exciting stories, fun crafts you can make, yummy recipes to try, and amazing artwork and poems sent in by kids just like you. It's a great way to learn and have fun at the same time.
A Little Bit of History
Before it was called The Friend, this magazine had a different name: The Children's Friend. It started way back in 1902! Then, in January 1971, the name changed to The Friend. So, it's been around for a very long time, helping kids learn and grow.
Who Helps Make The Magazine?
A magazine needs a lot of people to make it happen, and one of the most important jobs is the editor. The editor is like the captain of the ship for the magazine. They decide what stories, pictures, and activities go into each issue. They make sure everything is just right for the readers.
For The Children's Friend, some of the early editors included:
- May Anderson (from 1902 to 1940)
- LaVern W. Parmley (from 1951 to 1970)
Since 1977, the editor of The Friend has been a general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This means a leader from the Church helps guide what goes into the magazine. The current editor is Randy D. Funk.
