The Haunted Fort is the 44th book in the original The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories series. It was published by Grosset & Dunlap. This exciting adventure was written by David Grambs in 1965 for the Stratemeyer Syndicate.
The Mystery Begins!
The story starts with a phone call. Chet Morton's uncle needs help! He asks Frank and Joe Hardy, along with their good friend Chet, to visit a summer art school. This school is located near an old place called Fort Senandaga. People say a ghost lives there!
The Hardy Boys have a big job. They need to find two very famous oil paintings. These paintings were stolen from a special collection. The collection belongs to Jefferson Davenport. He is a rich man who helps fund the Millwood Art School.
Secrets of the Fort
Mr. Davenport tells the boys an important secret. One of the stolen paintings is very old. It shows Fort Senandaga. His ancestor, General Jason Davenport, painted it. This painting holds a hidden clue! The clue leads to a priceless chain of gold.
Dangerous Clues
As Frank, Joe, and Chet search, they face many dangers. They get scary threats. They also find deadly traps. Their mission is to find the stolen paintings. They also need to find the hidden gold treasure.
The search becomes even harder because of a big argument. A proud Englishman and an equally proud Frenchman are fighting. They disagree about the history of the fort. This feud makes the mystery even more complicated for the Hardy Boys.
