The Highwaymen were a very famous country music group. It was made up of four of the biggest stars in music at the time. These stars were Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson. They were all known for starting a new style of music called outlaw country. The group played together from 1985 to 1995.

The Highwaymen: A Special Group

The Highwaymen were known as a "supergroup." This means they were a band made of musicians who were already very famous on their own. Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson were all legends. They had worked together before in different ways.

Their Music and Success

The group's first song was called "Highwayman." It quickly became the number one song on the country music charts. Their first album, also named The Highwayman, was released by Columbia Records. This album also reached number one on the country album charts. This showed how popular their music was with fans.

The Highwaymen created a unique sound. They blended their different styles of country music. This made them very special in the music world.

Beyond the Music

Between 1997 and 1999, Nelson, Kristofferson, Cash, and Jennings also worked on a special project. They provided voices for a collection of stories by Louis L'Amour. This was a set of seven stories on four CDs. They were not called "The Highwaymen" for this project.
