The Judy Jack Show facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Judy Jack Show was one of the very first children's television shows made in Australia. It started in 1956 on a TV station in Melbourne called HSV-7. The show ran for about a year, ending in 1957, and was later replaced by another show called Young Seven. Not much information is available about The Judy Jack Show today.

Early Australian TV Shows

In the early days of television in Australia, many shows were only shown on one TV station. This was different from how TV works today, where shows are often broadcast across the whole country. The Judy Jack Show was one of these local programs, only seen by people who could watch HSV-7 in Melbourne. Other examples of early local shows included TV Disc Jockey on TCN-9 and The Happy Go Lucky Show on GTV-9.

About Judy Jack

The show was named after its host, Judy Jack. She was a popular presenter for children. During the time The Judy Jack Show was on air, Judy Jack got married to a journalist named Trevor Dawson-Grove. She took a short break, about two weeks, from hosting the show for her wedding. After The Judy Jack Show ended, Judy Jack continued her career in television. She hosted Children's TV Club for the ABC network. In 1959, she also co-hosted a show called Geoff and Judy for GTV-9.

How Shows Were Made Back Then

The Judy Jack Show was broadcast live. This means it was shown as it happened, without being recorded beforehand. In those early days of Australian television, many live shows were not recorded. Even though a technology called kinescope recording existed, which could record live broadcasts, many shows from that time were not saved. Because of this, it's not known if any recordings of The Judy Jack Show still exist today.
