The Land is a unique playground located in Plas Madoc, a community near Wrexham in Wales. It's known as a "junk playground" because it uses recycled and natural materials for kids to build and create their own play spaces. This exciting playground has been open since 2011.

What is The Land?

The Land is a special place where children and young people can play freely. It's designed for kids aged five to sixteen years old. Unlike typical playgrounds with fixed equipment, The Land encourages kids to be creative. They can build, explore, and imagine using various materials.

How The Land Works

The playground is run by a group called the Association Of Voluntary Organisations In Wrexham (Avow). It's a safe and supervised environment. There are usually between 6 and 12 adults, called playworkers, on site. These playworkers are there to help and support the children's play. They make sure everyone is safe and having fun.

Exploring the Play Area

The Land covers about one acre of fenced space. A small stream runs through it, adding to the natural feel. You might find piles of wooden pallets, old tires, and even upside-down boats. There are also wheelbarrows, ladders, and ropes. These items are all part of the adventure. Kids can use them to build forts, climb, or create new games.

The Land on Film

The Land became famous when it was featured in a documentary film. The movie was also called The Land. It was directed by an American filmmaker named Erin Davis. She spent a month filming at the playground in 2012. The film shows how children play and interact in this special environment.
