The Melted Coins is an exciting mystery book. It's the 23rd story in The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories series. This book was first published by Grosset & Dunlap.
The story was written in 1944 by Leslie McFarlane. He wrote it for a company called the Stratemeyer Syndicate. This company created many popular book series. Later, in 1970, the book was rewritten. This means there are two different versions of The Melted Coins. Both versions have the same title but tell different adventures!
Unraveling the Mystery: The Plot
The Rewritten Story (1970 Edition)
In the rewritten version, Frank and Joe Hardy get suspicious. Their friend Chet Morton joins a summer school. It sounds almost too good to be true. The Hardy Boys decide to investigate.
Their adventure begins with a burglary. It happened at the Seneca Indian Reservation in New York State. While looking into this, they also check out a nearby place. It's called Zoar College. The boys start to think there's a link. They suspect a connection between the college professors and the theft.
What was stolen? A special tribal mask called Spoon Mouth. This mask was made in a unique way. Some melted coins happened to form a sacred Indian image. Now, this important mask is missing! Frank and Joe's investigation becomes very dangerous. But they are brave and smart. They successfully find the mask. They also catch the people who stole it.
The Original Story (1944 Edition)
The first version of The Melted Coins is a different kind of mystery. This story involves fake money, also known as counterfeit money. There's also a hunt for buried treasure. And a spooky legend called the Curse of the Caribees.
Frank and Joe work to solve the mystery of the melted coins. Their investigation helps them shut down two different groups. One is a local group making fake money. The other is a much bigger operation. This larger group is involved in stealing gold. It's a thrilling adventure with lots of twists and turns!
