The People's Story Museum is a cool place in Edinburgh, Scotland. It's inside a really old building called the Canongate Tolbooth. This museum tells the amazing stories of everyday people who lived and worked in Edinburgh. It covers their lives from the late 1700s all the way up to today. The museum uses old stories people told, memories, and written records to share these tales.

What You Can See

Banners and Flags

The museum has the biggest collection of old flags and banners in Britain. There are 144 of them! These banners show support for important ideas like political changes. They also represent groups like trade unions, which are organizations that help workers. Some banners even supported the anti-apartheid movement, which fought against unfair racial separation in South Africa.

Waxworks and Stories

The museum also uses realistic wax figures. These figures help to show what life was like for people in Edinburgh. They bring the written stories of the city's past to life in a fun way.

The People's Story Museum has three main areas, like different rooms or sections. There's also a special room where you can watch films.

Life in Old Edinburgh

The first area shows what it was like to live in "tenement houses" in the 1700s. These were large buildings divided into many separate homes.

Stories from the 1900s

The second area displays many of the museum's banners. It also shares stories of Edinburgh citizens from the 1900s. You can see these stories through the wax figures and written histories.

Modern Edinburgh

The last areas show what Edinburgh was like in the middle and later parts of the 1900s.

The Film Room

In the film room, you can watch short movies about four people from Edinburgh. They grew up in the city and worked in different jobs. Some worked in printing, others in building, in a co-op store, or as a servant. These films give you a real look into their lives.
