This thrilling mystery was written in 1967 by Tom Mulvey for the Stratemeyer Syndicate. Tom Mulvey also helped edit other adventure stories that involved airplanes and flying.

The Mystery Begins
The story starts with Joe and Frank Hardy. They go to a magic show with their dad, Fenton Hardy. After the show, their dad asks the magician, Hexton, about his amazing vanishing act.
Hexton offers to perform the trick on Fenton Hardy himself. But when their dad disappears, he doesn't come back! Hexton tries to say it's just a joke. However, Joe and Frank don't believe him. They think their dad has been kidnapped.
Searching for Clues
To find out what happened, Joe and Frank look through some of their dad's old records. They discover that Hexton is actually the leader of a big international gang!
The boys decide to search a lighthouse first. They thought their dad might be hidden there. Inside, they find a guard who tries to run away but can't. The guard tells them that their dad was there, but he's gone now.
Joe and Frank suspect their dad was moved to a secret location. They then decide to check Hexton's castle.
Trapped and Escaping
At Hexton's castle, the boys get caught! They are locked in a room. Luckily, they notice that the door hinges are old and weak. Joe and Frank take turns trying to pry the hinges off.
Finally, they manage to escape! As they are leaving, they overhear the gang talking about stealing some valuable jewels. Now, the Hardy Boys have two mysteries to solve. They need to find their dad and stop the jewel theft.
Flight 101 and the Big Reveal
As Joe and Frank try to leave the castle, the criminals try to catch them again. Just in time, the police arrive and save the boys! Even though the boys are safe, the criminals manage to get away.
Hexton steals the jewels and boards Flight 101. Joe and Frank also get on Flight 101, hoping to catch him. But they don't see anything suspicious during the flight.
The Secret Agent is Revealed
When everyone is leaving the plane, the boys think they spot Hexton. As they try to capture him, another person suddenly helps them. This person helps them catch Hexton!
It turns out the person who helped them was Fenton Hardy, their dad! All along, Joe and Frank's dad was working undercover. He was secretly spying on Flight 101 to catch the criminals. The mystery is solved, and the Hardy Boys are reunited with their dad!
