The Stationary Ark was a special TV show that helped people learn about animals. It was a miniseries, which means it had a limited number of episodes. The show was hosted by Gerald Durrell, who was a famous zoologist. A zoologist is a scientist who studies animals.
The show was filmed at Durrell's own animal park, the Jersey Zoological Park. It was based on a book he wrote in 1976 with the same name. A Canadian company called Nielsen-Ferns made the series. It first aired in Canada from September to December 1975 on CBC Television and TVOntario. Later, another TV series called Ark on the Move also featured Gerald Durrell.
The Theme Song
The music for The Stationary Ark was first created by John Mills-Cockell. This theme song became quite popular later on. In the mid-1980s, a new version of the song was made by Georg Feil. This new version was for the Commodore 64, which was a popular home computer back then.
