Plot Summary
The kingdom of Derek and Odette is getting ready for Festival Days. But an evil sorceress named Zelda has a secret plan. She wants to find Rothbart's notes on the Forbidden Arts. Zelda helped Rothbart write these notes a long time ago.
To find out if the notes still exist, Zelda captures a special bird. This bird is a yakey-bird named Whizzer. Whizzer can copy any voice he hears. Zelda's magic is not very strong, but she can create a magical fireball called a "seeker." This seeker can chase anyone she commands.
Zelda threatens Whizzer with her seeker. She sends him to Swan Lake Castle as a spy. Whizzer overhears that Derek and Lord Rogers found Rothbart's notes. They hid them away. Odette did not know Derek had found the notes. She thought they should be destroyed right away. She tried to tell Derek that nothing good would come from them. But Derek believed the notes could be used for good someday.
Whizzer tells Zelda what he learned. Zelda then goes to the castle. She pretends to be an "accordion slave." She tells Lord Rogers a story about escaping a king. Rogers is charmed by her and invites her to stay. Queen Uberta is not sure about Zelda.
That night, Zelda steals the chest with Rothbart's notes. She runs away. But she is upset because the notes are not complete. She cannot get full power. Zelda questions Whizzer again. She learns that Derek tore off the missing part and hid it.
Zelda sends a seeker to find Odette. Whizzer is sent to give a ransom note to Derek. The seeker successfully brings Odette and Jean-Bob to Zelda's secret lair. At the castle, Derek gets the ransom note. He finds the missing part of Rothbart's notes. He had hidden it in the library.
Whizzer is caught by Speed and Puffin. They convince him to help them stop Zelda. Whizzer agrees. The group then goes to help Derek rescue Odette.
Jean-Bob helps Odette escape. She tries to sneak away with the notes. But Zelda catches her again. Zelda then turns Odette into a swan. She traps Odette and Jean-Bob in a dome of green fire. If they touch it, they will be destroyed.
Derek arrives at the meeting place to pay the ransom. Zelda tricks Derek. She pretends to be Odette and takes the final piece of the notes from him. Zelda laughs at Derek. She breaks her promise to return Odette. Instead, she plans to use the Power to Destroy on Odette.
Puffin and the others finally meet Derek. They race towards Zelda's lair. They free Odette and Jean-Bob. Zelda is busy absorbing the Power to Destroy. Derek and his friends fight Zelda. Zelda creates a destroying seeker and sends it at Odette. Odette, with Puffin, flies away from the lair to escape.
Whizzer distracts Zelda by copying Rothbart's voice. This allows Derek to snap Zelda's magic wand in half. Zelda falls back onto her own green fire spell and is destroyed. Puffin returns to the lair alone. He tells Derek that Odette was killed by the seeker. Derek is very sad. He wishes he had destroyed the notes earlier. As he burns the notes, he says sorry to Odette. He prays that some good might still come from it. The flames form the shape of a swan. From the flames, Odette appears and comes back to life. Derek hugs her and tells her he loves her.
The kingdom is safe again. The festival happens as planned. Jean-Bob wins the obstacle course and becomes prince for a day. Whizzer helps him a little. Uberta and Rogers win the talent show. Derek and Odette watch everything. Odette asks Derek to promise there is no more magic in the castle. Derek smiles and says he cannot. He tells her, "So long as you're here, there'll always be magic." Then they kiss.
