How It All Started
The company began in 1965. A person named Lincoln Warrell started it. Back then, it was called Pennsylvania Dutch Candies.
In 2000, a few candy companies joined together. These were Pennsylvania Dutch Candies, Katherine Beecher Candies, and Melster Candies. They all became part of the new Warrell Corporation. The company also opened a big new factory. It was 200,000 square feet! Melster Candies was sold in 2004.
Today, over 300 people work for the company. Their main factories are in Lower Allen, Pennsylvania. In 2019, Warrell Corporation started something new called Warrell Creations.
A big part of their work is making candies for other companies. This is called contract manufacturing. They make a lot of chocolate for other brands. Warrell Creations can also fire roast nuts and make nut clusters. The company tries to make products that people buy all year. This helps them stay strong financially.
Patricia Zwergel is the company's leader, called the CEO. In 2001, the person who started the company, Lincoln Warrell, was honored. He was put into the Candy Hall of Fame! He also helped lead the National Confectioners Association. In 2005, he won a special award from Candy Industry Magazine. The Pennsylvania Dutch Candies brand was part of Warrell Corporation until 2020. Then, another company bought it.
Past Warrell Candies
Pennsylvania Dutch Candies was a brand under Warrell Corporation until 2020. They made many kinds of sweets. These included Sanded Candy Drops and chocolate-covered pretzels. They also made stick candy, nuts, dried fruits, and peanut brittle.
In 2010, Warrell Corporation started making Bonomo's Turkish Taffy. They were the only company with the right machines. These machines could make the candy in a special way. This meant it was approved as kosher.
In 2009, the company bought Classic Caramel Co. This company used to be in Pennsylvania. Warrell restarted it and called it Warrell Classic Co. They kept making 30 different kinds of caramel. These were the same types sold under the Classic Caramel name. This company closed in 2019.
In 2013, Warrell Corporation sold three of its candy brands. These brands went to the Texas-based Atkinson Candy Company. Warrell no longer makes Slo Poke, Black Cow, and Sophie Mae candies in Pennsylvania.
