History of the Eldridge House

Theodore Eldridge was a relative of D.C. Eldridge, who was one of the first people to settle in Davenport. Theodore used to run a restaurant and candy shop in the downtown area. He even lived above his shop for a while! In 1878, he moved into this house, which became his new home.

What Does the House Look Like?

The Theodore Eldridge House is built in a style called Italianate architecture. Imagine a beautiful Italian villa, and you'll get an idea of this style! Many houses in Davenport use this design.

Special Features of the House

This house has a rectangular shape and a special roof called a hipped roof. It also has a tower, which is a common feature in the Villa form of Italianate style. One of the most interesting parts of this house is its front wall. It curves outwards, almost like a bow! This unique design might have been created by Willet Carroll, who was one of the first professional architects in Davenport.
