He became a "fellow" at the college in 1596. This means he was a special member who helped teach and study. He earned his first university degree in 1600. Later, in 1610, he earned his M.D. degree, which means he was now a fully qualified doctor.

Medical Career

Before finishing his studies, Theodore Goulston worked as a doctor in Wymondham. After getting his M.D., he moved to London. He became a doctor in the area of St. Martin-extra-Ludgate.

In 1611, he joined the College of Physicians. This was a very important group for doctors in London. He was chosen as a "censor" several times (in 1615, 1616, 1625, and 1626). A censor helped make sure doctors followed the rules and kept high standards.

Theodore Goulston was known for being very smart and knowledgeable. He also had a very busy medical practice, helping many people.

His Legacy: The Goulstonian Lectures

Theodore Goulston passed away on May 4, 1632, at his home in London. In his will, he left money to the College of Physicians. He gave them £200 to start a special series of talks.

These talks are called the Goulstonian Lectures. They were meant to be given every year by one of the college's youngest doctors. The first lecture was given in 1639. These lectures have continued for over 300 years, helping new doctors learn and share knowledge.

His Writings

Theodore Goulston was also a writer and a scholar. He translated important ancient Greek texts into Latin.

In 1619, he published a Latin translation of Aristotle's Rhetoric. This book is about how to speak and write well to persuade people. He dedicated this work to Prince Charles, who later became King Charles I. His notes and translation were used again in a later edition of the Greek text.

In 1623, he published another Latin translation. This one was of Aristotle's Poetics. This book is about plays, poetry, and storytelling. He also dedicated this book to Prince Charles.

He also wrote notes and translations for other works by a famous ancient doctor named Galen. These were published after he died, in 1640.
