Thiébault Island is a small island located in the chilly waters of Antarctica. It's part of a group of islands called the Wilhelm Archipelago. You can find Thiébault Island just west of Charlat Island, near the southern tip of Petermann Island. Like many islands in Antarctica, Thiébault Island is not home to any people.

Discovering Thiébault Island

This small island was first found by a group of explorers from France. They were on an adventure called the French Antarctic Expedition, which took place from 1908 to 1910.

The leader of this expedition was a French explorer named Jean-Baptiste Charcot. He decided to name the island after a special person.

Who Was Mr. Thiébault?

Mr. Thiébault was the French Minister (which is like an Ambassador) to Argentina at that time. An ambassador is a country's official representative in another country. Naming the island after him was a way to honor his role and support for France.
