- Later, he represented County Meath. He was an MP for County Meath from 1695 to 1699, and again from 1703 to 1710.
Joining the Privy Council

Thomas Bligh got married on December 9, 1682. His wife was named Elizabeth Napier (who died on March 21, 1737). She was the daughter of Colonel James Napier.
Thomas and Elizabeth had several children:
- John (born December 28, 1687 – died September 12, 1728). He later became a very important person, known as the Earl of Darnley.
- Thomas (born 1693 – died 1775). He grew up to become a high-ranking officer in the army, called a Lieutenant-General.
- Robert (born around 1704 – died June 1778). He became a religious leader, known as the Dean of Elphin.
- Elizabeth. She married a man named George St George. Elizabeth was also the mother of Sir Richard St George, 1st Baronet.
