Thomas Dalton was born in 1516 or 1517. His father was also named Thomas Dalton and was a merchant in Kingston upon Hull. His father was so respected that he even became the Mayor of Hull in 1547. Young Thomas learned a lot about business from his father.

A Successful Merchant

Following in his father's footsteps, Thomas Dalton became a very successful merchant. He worked hard and made a lot of money. Instead of just keeping his money, he used it wisely. Public Service in Hull

Thomas Dalton was not just a businessman; he was also very involved in his community. He held several important jobs in Hull:

  • He served as Mayor of Hull three times: from 1554 to 1555, then again from 1560 to 1561, and a third time from 1569 to 1570. The mayor was the main leader of the town.
  • He was also chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for Hull. He served in Parliament twice, once in 1555 and again in 1572. Being an MP meant he helped make laws for the country.

His Family Life

Thomas Dalton was married twice. His first wife was Anne Walker. Later, he married Anne Tyrwhitt, who was the daughter of Sir Robert Tyrwhitt from Kettleby. Thomas and Anne Tyrwhitt had a large family together. They had six sons and three daughters. When Thomas Dalton passed away on January 4, 1591, he was buried at Holy Trinity church in Hull.
