Early Life and Education

Thomas Fitzjames was the son of Leweston Fitzjames. His family lived in a place called Leweston in Dorset, England.

When he was 16 years old, Thomas started studying at Lincoln College, Oxford. This was on January 25, 1639. After his university studies, he went on to become a lawyer. He joined a special group for lawyers called the Middle Temple in 1649. This meant he could practice law.

His Time in Parliament

In 1659, Thomas Fitzjames was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is a person elected to represent an area in the country's government. He represented a place called Downton. This was during a period known as the Third Protectorate Parliament.

He was living in Nurfland at this time. In April 1660, he was chosen again to be an MP for Downton. This was for the Convention Parliament. However, there was a problem. Two people were chosen for the same spot. This is called a "double return." Because of this, his election was cancelled on May 9.

Family Connections

Thomas Fitzjames had two brothers who were also involved in public life. His brothers were Henry Fitzjames and John Fitzjames.
