Thomas Foket's Football Journey
Starting Out at Dilbeek Sport
Thomas Foket began his senior football career at a young age. When he was just 16, he joined the first team of a club called Dilbeek Sport. This team played in the Fourth Division of Belgian football. After the 2011–12 season, several big teams from the Belgian Pro League wanted him to join. These teams included AA Gent, Club Brugge, and R.S.C. Anderlecht. Thomas chose to play for Gent because it allowed him to continue his studies while also training for football.
Playing for Gent
In March 2012, Thomas signed a two-year contract with Gent. He made his first appearance for the club in a big European competition called the Europa League. This was during a qualifying match against FC Differdange 03. Thomas came into the game in the 79th minute, replacing another player.
Gent was very happy with Thomas, so in July 2012, they extended his contract until 2016. Later, in October 2014, they extended it again until 2018. After he returned from a loan period at Oostende, Thomas changed his playing position. He started playing as a right midfielder, which is a more attacking role.
Loan Spell at Oostende
During the 2013–14 season, Thomas Foket went on loan to K.V. Oostende. This club had just been promoted to the Pro League, which is the top football league in Belgium. This loan helped him gain more experience playing at a higher level.
Moving to France with Reims
In August 2018, Thomas made a big move to France. He joined Reims, a team in Ligue 1, which is the top football league in France. He signed a five-year contract with them. The transfer fee for him was reported to be around €3.5 million. He played many games for Reims during his time there.
Returning to Belgium with Anderlecht
On August 3, 2024, Thomas Foket returned to Belgium. He signed a three-season contract with Anderlecht. This was one of the clubs that wanted him when he was just 16 years old.
Thomas Foket's International Career
Thomas Foket has also played for his country, Belgium. In November 2016, he was called up to the senior Belgian squad for the first time. This was for matches against the Netherlands and Estonia.
He made his official debut for Belgium on November 10, 2016. He came on as a substitute at half-time in a friendly match against the Netherlands. The game ended in a 1–1 draw.
