Thomas Foster Chuck (born September 19, 1826, died December 7, 1898) was a British photographer. He was born in London, England. Later, he moved to Australia. There, he took many pictures of the first explorers and settlers in Victoria.

A Photographer's Journey
Thomas Chuck moved to Australia. By 1866, he had opened his own photo studio. This first studio was in a town called Daylesford. Later, he moved to Melbourne. In Melbourne, he had several studios. He even opened a place called the London Portrait Gallery. This gallery was located in the Royal Arcade on Bourke Street. In 1876, he sold his Melbourne studio. He then moved to Ballarat and opened a new gallery there.
Capturing History
Chuck was famous for taking pictures of important people. He photographed explorers and early settlers of Victoria. One of his big projects was about the Burke and Wills expedition. This was a famous journey from 1860 to 1861.
His most famous work was called The Explorers and Early Colonists of Victoria. This huge project was a collection of over 700 photos. It showed many of the first people who settled in Victoria. He worked on this amazing collection between 1870 and 1872.
In 1872, Chuck got a special job. He was asked to photograph the art collection at the National Gallery of Victoria. He took 18 pictures of the artworks. These photos were later published in a book in 1875. The book was called Photographs of the Pictures in the National Gallery of Melbourne.
Winning Awards
In 1874, Thomas Chuck won a gold medal. This award was given at a big exhibition in London. His winning collection included photos of important people. These included Edward Williams and Redmond Barry.
His Personal Life
Thomas Chuck married Adeline Holt in 1854. She passed away in 1867. He then married Mary Ambrose in 1869. Thomas Chuck died in Albert Park, Victoria, on December 7, 1898.
