Thomas Gordon's Life

Thomas Gordon was born into a family of smart people. His father, George Gordon, was also a professor at King's College in Aberdeen. He taught Hebrew, an ancient language. Thomas's grandfather, also named George Gordon, was even the head of the college back in 1684.

Thomas went to the University of Aberdeen. He finished his studies and earned his Master of Arts degree in 1731. After that, he worked in many different jobs at the college. He started as a "Regent," which was like a tutor, and later became a professor. He taught subjects like Greek and philosophy.

From 1758 to 1773, Thomas was part of a group called the Aberdeen Philosophical Society. He was one of the most active members. He even served as the secretary for several years. In this group, he talked about ideas with other smart people. Some of these people included Professor John Gregory, Professor Robert Trail, and Dr. David Skene.

Thomas also taught his own grandson, Robert Eden Scott, at the college. Robert later became a professor himself.

Thomas Gordon passed away on March 11, 1797.
