Thomas Masterson was an officer who served during the American Revolution. He was a Midshipman, which is a junior officer, in the Virginia State Navy.

Thomas Masterson's Life

Thomas Masterson was born around 1750 in Fairfax County, Virginia. His parents were Edward and Mary Masterson.

Thomas's father, Edward Masterson, passed away when Thomas was still young. His father's will was officially approved in September 1754.

In 1766, Thomas's uncle, Joseph Farrow, arranged for Thomas to become an apprentice. This meant Thomas would learn a skill from a master craftsman. He was apprenticed to Thomas Dagg, a ship's carpenter.

Serving in the Navy

Thomas Masterson served as a Midshipman on a ship called the "Tempest." This ship was a brig, a type of sailing vessel, in the Virginia State Navy.

On April 27, 1781, the "Tempest" was involved in a battle. This fight happened on the James River, near a place called Osborne's. During the battle, the "Tempest" was lost to the British forces. Several officers from the ship were captured.

Thomas Masterson survived the war. He passed away around 1791.
