Thomas Wedge was born in 1760. His father, Francis Wedge, was a wealthy farmer from Fernhill House in Staffordshire. Thomas had two brothers, John Wedge and Charles Wedge. Thomas followed in his family's footsteps and became a successful farmer. He set up his own farms near Sealand, Flintshire, where he did very well.

His Work in Farming

Thomas Wedge was not just a farmer; he was also an agriculturalist. This means he studied and wrote about farming to help others. He wanted to make farming better and more efficient.

Helping Farmers with Books

In 1794, Thomas Wedge wrote an important book. It was called A General View of the Agriculture of the County Palatine of Chester. This book was written for the Board of Agriculture and Internal Improvement. This was a special government group that worked to help farmers across England. His book shared ideas on how to farm better in the Cheshire area.

His Family Life

Thomas Wedge married Susannah Couchman. She was from Balsall Temple in Warwickshire. Susannah's father, Henry Couchman, was a famous architect and landscape designer. Thomas and Susannah did not have any children.

A Lasting Gift: The School

Near the end of his life, Thomas Wedge used his money to help his community. He paid for and supported a school in Saughall. This school was called the Thomas Wedge Church of England Primary School.

The School's History

The Thomas Wedge School was open for many years. It was even made bigger in 2005. However, the school closed in July 2009. A new school was built to replace it, and it was given a different name. Thomas Wedge passed away in 1854 when he was 94 years old.
