Ti'ho facts for kids
Ti'ho was an ancient city built by the Maya people. It was located in the northwest part of the Yucatán Peninsula in what is now Mexico. You might also hear it called T'hó, Ichcansiho, Ichkanzihóo, or Ichcaanzihó.
Today, the large city of Mérida stands on top of the ruins of Ti'ho. Mérida is the capital city of the Yucatan state and the biggest city in the region.

Ti'ho was a very important Mayan settlement. A "settlement" is like a town or city where people live. The Maya were an amazing ancient civilization. They were known for their advanced writing, art, architecture, and math.
Where Was Ti'ho Located?
Ti'ho was located on the Yucatán Peninsula. This is a large piece of land that sticks out into the Gulf of Mexico. It's a beautiful area with a rich history. The Maya built many of their cities in this region.
The Founding of Mérida
In 1542, a Spanish explorer named Francisco de Montejo founded the city of Mérida. He built the new city right on top of the old Mayan city of Ti'ho. The Spanish often used stones from ancient Mayan buildings to construct their new cities. This is why many of the original Mayan structures of Ti'ho are now hidden beneath Mérida.
