Tifanny Janea McCarty, born on December 14, 1990, is an American soccer player. She plays as a forward, which means she tries to score goals. She has played for many teams around the world. Her last team was Þór/KA in Iceland. She also played for teams like the Houston Dash, FC Kansas City, and Washington Spirit in the NWSL in the United States. She also played in Japan and Norway.

Early Life and High School Soccer

Tifanny McCarty grew up loving soccer. She went to St. John's College High School. There, she became the best scorer in her school's history. She scored 191 goals and made 74 assists. Her 191 goals broke the scoring record for the whole Washington Metro area. This area includes Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.

McCarty was the top scorer in her conference for four years. She helped her school win two championships. In 2008, she was named a PARADE All-American. This is a big honor for young athletes. She also won many awards from NSCAA/adidas. She was named the State Player of the Year for Washington D.C. three times. She also won the Gatorade Player of the Year award three times.

Tifanny was a top recruit for college soccer. She was part of the Maryland Olympic Development Program (ODP) team. She also played for the Region I Regional Team. In 2005, she was the captain of the ODP Regional championship team. She helped her Maryland team win the ODP national championship in 2006.

Club Team Success

McCarty also played for a club team called Freestate Shooters. In 2004, she helped them win the Maryland state cup. In 2007, as captain, she led her team to win the Region I Premier League championship. They also won the US Club Soccer national championship that year.

College Soccer Career

Tifanny McCarty went to Florida State University. She played for the Seminoles team for four years, from 2008 to 2012. She played in 98 games for them. During her time there, she scored 63 goals and made 24 assists. She was a very important player for her college team. In 2009 and 2011, she was a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy. This award goes to the best college soccer player in the United States.

Professional Club Career

Early Professional Teams

McCarty started her professional career with the Washington Freedom. She played for them in the W-League from 2007 to 2009. In 2007, her team won the league championship. She even scored a goal in the championship game. In 2011, she played for the Pali Blues in the W-League for one summer.

Playing in the NWSL

In 2013, Tifanny McCarty was chosen by the Washington Spirit in the 2013 NWSL College Draft. She was the second player picked overall. This was for the first season of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). She scored the first goal for the Washington Spirit in their very first regular season game.

Loan to Japan

Later in 2013, McCarty went on loan to Albirex Niigata Ladies. This team plays in Japan's Nadeshiko League.

Moving to Other NWSL Teams

On January 10, 2014, the Houston Dash picked McCarty in the 2014 NWSL Expansion Draft. She played for them until 2015. In 2016, she was traded to FC Kansas City. She played 16 games for them and scored 2 goals.

Playing in Norway

In 2017, McCarty decided to play in Norway. She signed with Medkila IL in the Toppserien, which is Norway's top league. Her team was moved down to a lower league after the 2017 season.

Return to Washington Spirit

On August 30, 2018, McCarty rejoined the Washington Spirit. She played in their last game of the 2018 NWSL season. She was also on their team roster for the 2019 NWSL season.

Playing in Iceland

McCarty played in Iceland in 2020 for Selfoss. She scored 9 goals in 16 games. In 2021, she played for Breiðablik. She scored 8 goals in 17 games. With Breiðablik, she won the Icelandic Cup and scored in the final game. In January 2022, she signed with Þór/KA. She scored 3 goals in 14 matches for them.

International Soccer Career

Tifanny McCarty has played for the United States at different youth levels. She played for the Under-17, Under-18, and Under-20 teams. In 2013, she was part of the United States under-23 women's national soccer team. This team won the Four Nations Tournament in Spain.
