Meet Tina and Milo: Winter Games Mascots
How Tina and Milo Were Chosen
The mascots for the 2026 Games were chosen through a special contest. More than 1,600 ideas were submitted by Italian students. These students were between 6 and 14 years old. Tina and Milo were designed by students from the Istituto Comprensivo Taverna. Their design won with 53 percent of the public votes!
This exciting contest was a team effort. It was organized by the Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026 and the Italian Ministry of Education. The mascots were named after two important Italian cities. Tina is named after Cortina d'Ampezzo. Milo is named after Milan. Their designs were first shown to the public on February 7, 2024. This happened during the famous Sanremo Music Festival 2024.
Who Are Tina and Milo?
Tina and Milo are siblings. Tina is the mascot for the Olympic Games. She has a beautiful white coat. Tina moved from the Italian mountains to the city. She loves exploring new places and ideas.
Milo is Tina's brother and the Paralympic mascot. He has a brown coat. Milo was born without one leg. However, he uses his tail to help him move around. This shows his amazing strength and determination. The students who designed them said stoats represent innocence and purity. Their different coat colors show how important it is to celebrate differences. Stoats naturally change their fur color. They are brown and white in summer. In winter, their fur becomes completely white.
The Milano Cortina 2026 Organising Committee called Tina and Milo "the first openly Gen Z mascots." This means they represent the generation of young people born from the late 1990s to the early 2010s.
The Flo: Their Snowy Friends
Tina and Milo are not alone! They have a team of six friends called the Flo. The Flo are also anthropomorphic characters. They look like cute snowdrop flowers. These flower friends were inspired by other student designs. They came from the Istituto Comprensivo Sabin di Segrate. The Flo symbolize hope and resilience. They remind us to always keep trying and stay positive.
Tina and Milo on Coins
To celebrate the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, Italy created special coins. In 2025, a series of Euro coins were made. Some of these coins feature images of Tina and Milo. This is a special way to remember the Games and their mascots.
