Tinker and Tanker is a fun series of children's books. It was written and drawn by Richard Scarry, a very famous author and illustrator. The books were published in the United States by Doubleday between 1960 and 1963.
About Tinker and Tanker
The main characters in these stories are Tinker and Tanker. They live in a place called Tootletown. When the first book came out in 1960, the publisher, Doubleday, described them. Tinker is a smart and quick-thinking rabbit. Tanker is a strong and steady hippopotamus. Over the next three years, a total of six books were published in this series.
The adventures of Tinker and Tanker were typical picture storybooks. This means they had simple plots and not too much text. The characters were all animals, but they often acted a lot like humans. The drawings also showed a funny and silly side, which became a special part of Richard Scarry's books later on.
Because of how books were made back then, the pictures inside each book would sometimes be in full color and sometimes in black and white. This was due to printing costs at Doubleday. Even with this, the Tinker and Tanker series was quite popular. Later, in 1968, three of these stories were put together into one bigger book called an omnibus edition.
