Tito Cittadini facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Tito Cittadini (born in 1886, died in 1960) was an important Argentine painter. He was born in Buenos Aires to parents who had moved there from Italy.

Early Life and Artistic Path

In 1907, Tito Cittadini started studying architecture in Buenos Aires. However, his path changed when he traveled to Europe in 1910. It was then that he decided to focus on painting instead. In 1911, he began learning from a famous Catalan painter named Hermen Anglada in Paris, France.

His teacher, Anglada, encouraged Cittadini to visit Spain many times. During these trips, in 1913, he first visited the island of Majorca. This beautiful island completely captured his attention, and it slowly became the main subject of his artwork.

Life and Art in Majorca

When World War I started in 1914, Tito Cittadini decided to make Majorca his permanent home. This helped him stay away from the difficulties of the war. Even though he lived in Majorca, he still traveled often to other countries.

Cittadini was a very productive artist. He created many works using different materials like oil paints, watercolors, and pencils. He also wrote several articles where he shared his ideas about painting techniques and theories. After he passed away, a book was published in 1965 called Vademecum del aspirante a pintor, which means "The Student Painter's Handbook." This book showed his thoughts on art.

Notable Works

Many of Tito Cittadini's paintings are now displayed in museums across Majorca. Some of his well-known works include:

  • Man making a basket (Hombre haciendo una cesta)
  • Suburbs of Majorca (Suburbios de Mallorca)
  • Women Sewing (Mujeres cosiendo)
  • Benzi Toga (Benzi Toga)

Tito Cittadini passed away in Pollença, Majorca, in 1960.
