Tohono O'Odham Ki:Ki Association facts for kids
The Tohono O'odham Ki:Ki Association (say "Key-Key") is like the housing department for the Tohono O'odham Nation. This Nation is a Native American tribe located in Arizona. The Association helps make sure people in the Tohono O'odham Nation have good places to live. It used to be called the Papago Housing Authority.
The Tohono O'odham Ki:Ki Association, often called TOKA, gets money from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This money comes from a special program called the Indian Community Development Block Grant (ICDBG). For example, TOKA received $2.75 million to help fix up or rebuild empty homes across the Nation. This helps families have safe and comfortable places to live.
What TOKA Does
TOKA's main goal is to provide homes that are affordable for families with lower incomes. They want to make sure everyone in the Tohono O'odham Nation has a safe and healthy place to live.
How TOKA is Managed
A group of five people, called the Board of Directors, guides TOKA. These directors are chosen by the Tohono O'odham Nation's Legislative Council. This Council is like the tribe's government. The daily work of TOKA is managed by an Executive Director, who is chosen by the Board.
TOKA's Departments
TOKA has eight different teams that help it run smoothly:
- Administration
- Human Resources/Information Technology
- Residential Services
- Finance
- Compliance
- Development
- Construction
- Maintenance
TOKA is a big employer, providing jobs for 50 to 90 people.
TOKA's Mission
TOKA has a special statement that explains its goals:
The Tohono O'odham Nation wants to create good, affordable homes in safe places. They also want to help people own their own homes. TOKA aims to run its programs well and build strong relationships with the people living in their homes. They also work with communities and private companies to find more ways to help tribal members get homes.
TOKA helps manage over 800 homes. These homes were built with funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The main office for the Tohono O'odham Ki:Ki Association is in Sells, Arizona, which is on the Tohono O'odham Nation's land.
As of August 2025, Pete Delgado is the Executive Director of TOKA.
