Tomáš Klus: Early Life and Career
Tomáš Klus grew up in the industrial town of Třinec in the Czech Republic. His parents loved folk music, and they often took him to concerts and music festivals. This helped him discover his own love for music from a young age.
From Sports to Music
When Tomáš was 15, he moved to Prague. He first focused on a sports career, becoming a talented modern pentathlete. He even won a gold medal with his team in the 2002 European championship! However, he soon found himself more interested in performing and making music.
Starting His Music Journey
In 2007, Tomáš won the Czech Talent Zlín competition. This was a big step for his music career. The next year, in 2008, he released his first album, Cesta do záhu(d)by. One of his songs, "Do Nebe," became popular on Czech Radio even before the album came out. He also wrote music for a Czech film called Anglické jahody (which means "English Strawberries").
Becoming a Graduate
Tomáš continued to study while making music. In September 2012, he graduated from the Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts (DAMU) in Prague. He studied drama there, which helped him with his stage performances.
Hit Songs and Albums
In 2011, Tomáš Klus released a song called "Pánu bohu do oken" ("Into God's windows"). This song shared his thoughts on Czech politics. He performed it live at the Český slavík 2011, a big music awards show in the Czech Republic.
Later that year, on September 26, 2011, his album Racek was released. It quickly became number one on the Czech Album Sales Chart. The album was so popular that it was certified Gold in its first week! Racek stayed at number one for 23 weeks and was the best-selling album of 2011 in the Czech Republic. It later earned a Diamond certification, which means it sold a huge number of copies.
His most recent album, Proměnamě, came out on March 24, 2014. It also debuted at number one on the Czech Album Sales Chart.
Tomáš Klus: Political Views
Tomáš Klus sometimes uses his music and public platform to share his views on important topics. In March 2024, he posted a video online about the conflict in Gaza. He expressed support for the people in Gaza and questioned the Czech government's position on the conflict. He also compared the expansion of Israel to past occupations of Czechoslovakia. Some journalists disagreed with his statements, saying they contained factual errors and did not mention the 2023 Hamas attack on Israel.
