Tomás Burke was an Irish gentleman and soldier. He lived around the years 1600 to 1602. He was known for his role in the Nine Years' War. This was a major conflict in Ireland.
Tomás Burke's Role in History
Tomás Burke was one of four sons of John na Seamar Burke. His brothers were Redmond Burke, Baron Leitrim, William Burke, Lord of Bealatury, and John Óge Burke. All four brothers joined forces with important Irish leaders. These leaders included Hugh O'Neill, 2nd Earl of Tyrone and Aodh Ruadh Ó Domhnaill. They fought against the English during the Nine Years' War (Ireland).
A Soldier's Journey
Tomás Burke was a brave soldier. He survived a very tough battle called the Siege of Kinsale. This was a long and difficult siege. After the siege, he joined a march with Donal Cam O'Sullivan Beare. This march was a long and dangerous journey. It is thought that Tomás Burke died during this march. His brother, William, was mentioned when the group reached Aughrim, County Galway.
