Tom Natsworthy is the main hero of the exciting Mortal Engines Quartet book series by Philip Reeve. He starts as a quiet, ordinary teenager living in a giant moving city called London. His life changes completely when he meets a mysterious girl named Hester Shaw.
Tom's Role in the Books
In the first book, Mortal Engines, Tom is a young apprentice historian. This means he helps to find and study old things from the past, before cities started moving around. He works in the London Museum, which is inside the huge moving city.
His life takes a big turn when he tries to stop Hester Shaw from attacking a powerful historian named Thaddeus Valentine. Because of this, Tom and Hester are both thrown off the moving city of London. This event forces them to work together and survive in a dangerous world. They go on many adventures across the Traction Cities and the Great Hunting Ground.
Tom in the Movie
Tom Natsworthy also appears in the movie Mortal Engines, which is based on the first book. In the film, Tom is played by the Irish actor Robert Sheehan. The movie shows Tom's journey from a quiet apprentice to a brave adventurer.
