Tomás Costa's Football Journey

Starting at Rosario Central

Tomás Costa was born in Oliveros, Santa Fe, Argentina. He joined the youth team of Rosario Central when he was 18 years old. His first game for the main team was on September 17, 2006. He came into the game in the 85th minute, helping his team win 1–0 against Estudiantes de La Plata.

His first time starting a game was on October 1, 2006. This was a 1–1 draw at home against Godoy Cruz Antonio Tomba. Tomás started getting more chances to play after a new coach, Carlos Ischia, joined the team. He scored his first goal for Rosario Central on June 10, 2007. This goal helped his team win 2–0 against Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy.

Playing for Porto

On May 14, 2008, Tomás Costa moved to FC Porto in Portugal. He signed a five-year contract. He played his first game for Porto on August 24, 2008. Porto won that home game 2–0 against C.F. Os Belenenses.

Tomás also played in all ten games of the 2008–09 UEFA Champions League that season. His first Champions League game was a 3–1 home win against Fenerbahçe SK. On May 3, 2009, he scored his first goal for Porto in a 3–0 win against C.S. Marítimo. In his first season with Porto, he played 41 games in total. They even qualified for the 2011 Copa Sudamericana. In the national championship finals, he scored in the first game, which they won 2–0. However, he was sent off in the second game, which they lost 4–1.
