What Does a Clavicle Tigertail Look Like?
Adult clavicle tigertails have back wings that are usually 30 millimeters (about 1.2 inches) long or even bigger.
Male Dragonflies
Scientists have studied male clavicle tigertails. These males are usually a medium size. Most of their bodies are black. They also have some yellow patterns. The parts at the very base of their wings are not black. Their bodies (abdomen and back) have small, short hairs. The male's tail parts are shaped like clubs and curve upwards.
Female Dragonflies
Female clavicle tigertails are also medium-sized. Like the males, their bodies are mostly black with yellow patterns. The bases of their wings are not black. Their bodies have small, short hairs. The female's reproductive parts are narrow. They have a small, pointed tip called a styli.
Baby Dragonflies (Larvae)
Scientists have also studied the larvae (young dragonflies). These larvae are usually about 19 millimeters long. Their mouthparts are developing. The tongue-like part is still growing. Their mouth feelers (labial palps) are small. But they have six big bristles. The part behind their eyes is shaped like two bumps. The part behind their head is well-formed. It has short bristles. Their body segments have small, rounded bumps on the sides.
