Topos V - 001
Eduardo Chillida's Topos V.

Topos V, often called simply Topos, is a famous sculpture. It was created by a talented artist from the Basque Country named Eduardo Chillida. You can find this artwork in Barcelona, Spain, specifically in the historic Gothic Quarter. It stands proudly in a beautiful spot called Plaça del Rei.

The city of Barcelona bought Topos V in 1986. Before that, it was shown at the Joan Miró Foundation. Eduardo Chillida, the artist himself, thought that Plaça del Rei was the perfect home for his sculpture. He believed its shapes, size, brown color, and textures would look great next to the old medieval buildings around the square. These buildings include the grand Palau Real Major, the royal chapel of Saint Agatha, and Padellàs's House. The sculpture and the old buildings seem to "talk" to each other, creating a unique view.

What is Topos V?

Topos V is made from strong, heavy iron. Its shape is very geometric, meaning it uses clear lines and angles. It looks like a Dihedral angle, which is like two flat surfaces joined together. Two sides of the sculpture are closed, while the other two are open and face the square.

What does it look like?

The sculpture also has some round shapes. These curves might remind you of the letter "B" for Barcelona. They could also look like the old medieval arches or windows you see in the buildings nearby. These details help the modern sculpture fit in perfectly with the ancient architecture around it.

How big is it?

Topos V is quite large. It measures about 2.10 meters (about 6 feet 10 inches) tall, 2.37 meters (about 7 feet 9 inches) wide, and 1.70 meters (about 5 feet 7 inches) deep.
