Toru Yoshida (吉田 暢, born May 17, 1965) is a Japanese football player who used to play as a Midfielder. After his playing career, he became a football manager.
Toru Yoshida's Football Journey
Toru Yoshida was born in Shiwa, Iwate, Japan, on May 17, 1965. After finishing high school, he started his professional football career in 1984. He joined a team called Furukawa Electric, which later became known as JEF United Ichihara.
From 1986, Toru Yoshida played many games as a side back, which is a defensive position on the side of the field. During his time with Furukawa Electric, the team achieved great success. They won the 1986 JSL Cup and also the 1986 Asian Club Championship. Winning the Asian Club Championship was a huge deal because it was the first time a Japanese club had ever won this important Asian title!
In 1995, Toru Yoshida moved to another team called Brummell Sendai. This team was part of the Japan Football League. He played for Brummell Sendai for three seasons. Toru Yoshida decided to retire from playing professional football at the end of the 1997 season. Throughout his career, he played a total of 172 games and scored 3 goals.
From Player to Coach
After he stopped playing football, Toru Yoshida didn't leave the sport. He decided to become a coach! In 1998, he joined Sony Sendai as a coach.
In September 2001, he took on an even bigger role. He became the manager for Sony Sendai, taking over from the previous manager, Kazuaki Nagasawa. He led the team as manager until 2003.
Later, in 2006, Toru Yoshida signed with another team called Grulla Morioka. This team is based in his home area of Iwate Prefecture. He managed Grulla Morioka for several years, staying with the club until 2011.
