Esperanza "Toti" Martínez de Lezea García was born in 1949. Her hometown is Vitoria-Gasteiz, which is the capital city of Álava in the Basque Country. She started her university studies and then moved to the Goierri region of Gipuzkoa. There, she spent a year learning the Basque language.

Her Journey with Languages

Toti has a strong passion for languages. She studied French for four years in France. After that, she spent three years in England to learn English. She earned degrees in both languages. She also lived in Germany for two years, which helped her learn German. This made her a very skilled translator.

Working in Theatre and TV

Toti worked as a translator and an actress. She helped create the Kukubiltxo street theatre company. She started it with her husband and other young people in Larrabetzu, where she lives. She was part of this theatre group for five years.
