The Triangle Diner is a famous American diner located in Winchester, Virginia. It was built in 1948 by the Jerry O'Mahony Diner Company. This company was known for making diners in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

What Makes the Triangle Diner Special?

The Triangle Diner is one of the best-kept classic diners in the United States. It still has almost all of its original parts.

Unique Design and Features

Some of its cool features include shiny stainless steel on the outside. Inside, it has a rounded ceiling with hidden lights. There's a long counter with stools and comfy booths for people to sit in. The floor is made of a special concrete called terrazzo.

Built by Experts

The O'Mahony company was very important in building diners. They made many diners and were known for their high quality and great work. Their designs inspired other diner builders in the 1940s and 1950s.

How Diners Were Transported

The Triangle Diner is a great example of the "Moderne" style. This style used a lot of stainless steel. The whole diner, which is about 43 feet long and 16 feet wide, was built in the New Jersey factory. Once it was finished, it traveled almost 300 miles by train to Winchester, Virginia. It has been at the same spot in Winchester for over 60 years! These diners sometimes look like old train cars without their wheels.

A Historic Landmark

The Triangle Diner is recognized as a very important building.

National and State Recognition

The U.S. Department of the Interior added the Triangle Diner to the National Register of Historic Places on March 31, 2010. Before that, it was added to the Virginia Landmarks Register on December 17, 2009.

Rare and Important

This diner is the older of only two O'Mahony diners made of stainless steel that are still in Virginia. The O'Mahony company built over 2,000 diners in total. But today, only a few dozen of them are left across the country.

What's Happening Now?

The diner is currently closed. It needs a lot of work to be fixed up. This restoration project started but stopped in 2014.

Famous Connections

The Triangle Diner has a cool connection to music history.

Patsy Cline's Time at the Diner

The famous country music singer Patsy Cline once worked at the diner. She worked there for three years after she left high school. She did this to help her mom and siblings.
