Growing Up in Detroit
Triette E. Lipsey was born in Detroit, Michigan, on August 22, 1963. She grew up in the city and graduated from Redford High School in 1982.
College Studies
After high school, Triette Reeves went to Michigan State University. There, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Her studies focused on public administration, which is about how government and public services are managed.
Political Career
Starting in Politics
Triette Reeves began her work in politics as a Legislative Aide. She worked for Teola Pearl Hunter, who was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives for District 5. When Teola P. Hunter resigned in January 1992, Reeves decided to run for the position.
First Time in the State House
On November 3, 1992, Triette Reeves won a special election. She became a member of the Michigan House of Representatives, representing District 5. She was a member of the Democratic Party.
Serving Detroit City Council
From 1995 to 1998, Reeves served on the Detroit city council. This role allowed her to help make decisions for the city where she grew up.
Return to the State House
After her time on the city council, Reeves ran for the Michigan House of Representatives again.
- On November 3, 1998, she won the election for District 13. She received a large majority of the votes.
- As the current representative, she ran again on November 7, 2000. She won the election once more, continuing to serve District 13.
Representing a New District
On November 5, 2002, Triette Reeves won another election. This time, she became a Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives for District 10. She served in this role until 2004.
