Trimper's Rides is a very old and famous amusement park in Ocean City, Maryland, United States. It's right by the ocean, near the boardwalk. The park first opened way back in 1893! It was called The Windsor Resort back then.

Trimper's Rides has different parts. There's an indoor area that's open all year. There's also The Haunted House, which is a separate building. Plus, there are two big outdoor areas with lots of rides.

The Story of Trimper's Rides

How It All Began

Daniel B. Trimper and his wife, Margaret, came to Ocean City in 1890. By 1893, they owned land on the boardwalk. This included two hotels, The Eastern Shore and the Sea Bright.

After a big storm in 1900, they rebuilt the Sea Bright hotel. They made it look like Windsor Castle in Great Britain. So, the two hotels, a theater, and the amusement park became known as Windsor Resort.

A Very Old Carousel

In 1912, Daniel Trimper bought a huge carousel. It was 50 feet wide! This carousel was special because another one like it burned down.

The carousel had 45 animals, three chariots, and one rocking chair. It used to run on a steam engine. A ride cost only a nickel back then! Today, it's still working and is one of the oldest carousels in the country. It has horses, a zebra, a lion, a dragon, and many other cool animals.

More Rides and Fun

Over the years, the Trimper family added many more rides. Some of these rides are also very old and special. For example, there's a smaller kiddie carousel from the 1920s. A kiddie ferris wheel from the 1920s is also still working.

In the 1950s, more outdoor rides were added. The park kept growing, with new rides almost every year. A very popular ride, the "Tidal Wave" roller coaster, was bought in 1985. Other fun rides include the Rock & Roll Matterhorn and Himalaya. There are also many games where you can win prizes!

Family Fun for Generations

The Trimper family has kept the park going for many years. Daniel Trimper, Jr., managed the park after his father. He was also the Mayor of Ocean City for 16 years. In 1965, Daniel Trimper III took over. He made the park almost twice as big!

In 1964, Granville Trimper helped create The Haunted House. It has special effects and art. Later, John and Maria Bilous helped fix up the old Herschell-Spillman Carousel. The Trimper family continues to run the park today.

Exciting Rides to Try

Indoor Fun for Everyone

The Indoor Area has many rides, especially for younger kids. It also has old amusement park items. You can see antique ticket booths and old rides that still work.

The Spooky Haunted House

The Haunted House was built in 1964. It's a "dark ride," meaning you ride through a dark building with spooky surprises. It was made even bigger by adding a second level. This made the ride twice as long! It's a favorite for many visitors.
