History of the Triton Museum
The Triton Museum of Art has a rich history. It was started in 1965 in San Jose, California. A rancher, lawyer, and art lover named W. Robert Morgan and his wife June founded it.
Early Days and Growth
The museum is the oldest non-university museum in Santa Clara County. Less than two years after it opened, the Triton Museum moved to its current spot in Santa Clara, California.
At first, the museum had four buildings for shows and programs. These were surrounded by a big seven-acre park. In the 1970s, the Santa Clara Valley grew a lot. Because of this, the museum needed a new, bigger building.
A New Home for Art
The current museum building was finished in October 1987. It's a large space, about 22,000 square feet. The building has high ceilings and special skylights that let in natural light. This design makes it easy to display art in many ways. It also makes visiting the museum a beautiful experience.
