The Trnovac (Трновац) is a small river in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It flows through the central part of the country. This river is one of many that join the larger Vrbanja river.
About the Trnovac River
The Trnovac River starts high up on Vlašić Mountain. It flows for about 5 kilometers (3 miles) before joining the Vrbanja River. Its source is at an elevation of 1,120 meters (3,675 feet).
Where the Trnovac Flows
As the Trnovac flows, it collects water from several smaller streams. Before it reaches the village of Hajdarovići, six streams join it from the right side. Two more streams join it from the left side. The Trnovac then flows into the Vrbanja River near a popular spot called Trnovac, at an elevation of 546 meters (1,791 feet).
Most of the Trnovac River flows from east to west. It runs alongside other small rivers like the Crkvenica and Lopača. These are also rivers that flow into the Vrbanja River. The Trnovac flows between Šipraško hill and the village of Kurušići to the north. To the south, it passes by the Orahova ravan plain and the village of Gelići.
Watermills on the River
Long ago, rivers like the Trnovac were very important for daily life. In the 1960s, there were 12 watermills built along the Trnovac River. These mills used the power of the flowing water to grind grain into flour. Six of these watermills were located near Hajdarovići and where the river joins other streams.
