Tropical Storm Nari was a powerful storm that brought heavy rain and strong winds to parts of Japan in July 2019. It started as a small weather system and grew stronger as it moved across the ocean. Nari caused some flooding and strong gusts of wind before it finally faded away.

How Tropical Storm Nari Formed
On July 23, 2019, a small weather system, called a tropical disturbance, began to form. This happened in the waters south of Japan. Weather experts started watching it closely.
From Disturbance to Depression
- By the morning of July 24, this system had grown stronger.
- The Japan Meteorological Agency officially called it a tropical depression. This means it was a swirling system of clouds and thunderstorms.
- Other weather centers also recognized it as a tropical depression. They issued warnings about strong winds, called gale warnings.
Becoming a Tropical Storm
- On July 25, the system continued to get stronger.
- By the evening, it was upgraded to a tropical storm. This meant its winds were getting much faster.
- On July 26, the Hong Kong Observatory and the Japan Meteorological Agency officially named it "Nari." It was given the international number 1906.
Nari's Journey and End
- Tropical Storm Nari moved towards Japan.
- In the early morning of July 27, Nari made landfall in Mie Prefecture, Japan. This means the center of the storm moved over land.
- After hitting land, the storm began to weaken.
- It was downgraded back to a tropical depression later that day.
- By the morning of July 28, Tropical Storm Nari had completely disappeared.

Tropical Storm Nari brought a lot of rain and strong winds to central Japan. People in the affected areas had to be careful.

- The city of Wakayama recorded a lot of rain very quickly.
- It received 47.5 millimeters of rain in just one hour. This is a very heavy downpour.
- Such heavy rain can cause local flooding.
Strong Winds
- Very strong winds were also reported.
- At Shionomisaki cape in Kushimoto, Wakayama Prefecture, winds reached 25 meters per second. This is like a very strong gust of wind.
- These winds can make it hard to walk and can blow things around.
Areas Affected
- The storm caused heavy rain and strong winds across central Honshu. Honshu is the largest island of Japan.
- Localized heavy rain also spread over eastern Shikoku. Shikoku is another island in Japan.
- Weather agencies warned people in the Tokai and Kanto-Koshinetsu regions to be ready for heavy rain.
