Early Life and Football Beginnings
Troy Taylor grew up in Alice Springs. He started playing football for the South Alice Springs club. This team is part of the Central Australian Football League (CAFL). Troy was a very talented young player.
Joining the AFL
Troy's skills caught the eye of many AFL clubs. The Gold Coast Suns Football Club was interested in him. They wanted him to join their training squad. This was before the Suns played their first AFL season in 2011.
However, Troy chose a different path. He decided to enter the 2009 AFL Draft. This is where AFL clubs pick new players. The Richmond Tigers chose Troy. They picked him with their fourth choice, which was pick number 51 overall.
AFL Career with Richmond
Troy Taylor made his first AFL appearance in 2010. He played his debut game against the Melbourne Demons. This was in Round 4 of the 2010 AFL season.
Facing Challenges
During his time with Richmond, Troy faced some challenges. He often felt homesick, missing his family and home in Alice Springs. Because of this, he left the club twice. He also left their reserve team, the Coburg Football Club, which plays in the Victorian Football League (VFL).
Troy did not return to Richmond for the 2011 season. At the end of that year, the club decided to remove him from their player list. This is called being "delisted."
Life After AFL
After leaving Richmond, Troy continued to play football. In 2012, he joined the Walla Walla Football Club. This team is in the Hume Football League in New South Wales.
Troy played very well in his first few games for Walla Walla. But after a trip back home to Alice Springs to see his family, he did not return to the club.
