The Tudor House is a cool old house located on Vermont Route 8 in Stamford, Vermont. It was built in 1900 by a very rich family. This house mixes two popular building styles: Queen Anne and Colonial Revival. It stands out as one of the fanciest buildings in its small mountain town. The Tudor House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, which means it's an important historical site.

About the Tudor House

The Tudor House is found at the south end of Stamford's main village. It sits on the west side of Main Road, which is also Vermont Route 8 and Vermont Route 100. The house is a two-and-a-half story building made of wood. It has a hip roof and a strong stone foundation.

What Makes It Special?

The house looks very unique because of its exciting Queen Anne style. It has many parts that stick out, like gables, round towers called turrets, and porches. On the front, you'll see a round, two-story turret on the right side. On the left, there's a tall gable that slopes down to cover a porch. This porch has a cool rounded arch opening.

Inside the house, you'll find beautiful wooden details. These details show a more simple Colonial Revival style. This mix of styles makes the Tudor House truly special.

Who Built the House?

The house was built in 1900 by a man named John Tudor. He came from Wales and became very wealthy. John Tudor made his money as a mill owner in northern Vermont. He moved to Stamford in 1890.

At that time, Stamford was a small town where not many people lived. Most of the buildings there were simple and traditional. The Tudor House was very different from the other homes. It was much bigger and had a unique style. This made it stand out in the town. We don't know who designed or built the house for John Tudor.
