Tughril Beg was a very important leader who started the Seljuk Empire. He ruled from 1037 to 1063. Tughril brought together many groups of Turkoman warriors from a huge area called the Great Eurasian Steppes. These groups were like big families who all believed they came from one ancestor named Seljuq. Tughril led them to take control of land in eastern Iran, which was a big part of building his empire.

Who Was Tughril Beg?

Tughril Beg was born around 990. He was a leader of the Oghuz Turks, a group of people from Central Asia. His grandfather was Seljuq, who gave his name to the Seljuk family and the empire they would build. Tughril grew up in a time when many different groups of people were moving and fighting for land.

Starting the Seljuk Empire

Tughril Beg was very skilled at bringing people together. He united many Turkoman warrior groups. These groups were known for being strong fighters and excellent horsemen. By joining forces, they became a powerful army. Tughril's goal was to create a new, strong state.

Conquering New Lands

In 1037, Tughril Beg officially became the leader, or "sultan," of the Seljuk Empire. He then led his armies to conquer new territories. One of his most important victories was taking control of eastern Iran. This was a huge step in making the Seljuk Empire very large and powerful. His leadership helped the Seljuks become a major force in the Middle East.
