Tursunoy Makhmudovna Akhunova (Russian: Турсуной Махмудовна Ахунова, Uzbek: Tursunoy Oxunova; born May 20, 1937 – died September 21, 1983) was an amazing woman from Uzbekistan. She was one of the very first women in her country to drive a cotton harvesting machine. She was so good at her job that she won a special award called Hero of Socialist Labor twice! This award was given for growing a lot of cotton. Tursunoy also helped introduce new machines to make farming easier. She even became an important person in politics, helping make decisions for her country.

Early Life and Education

Tursunoy Akhunova was born on May 20, 1937, in a village called Pakhta, near Tashkent. After finishing eighth grade, she went to a special school. This school was called the Karasu School of Agricultural Mechanization. There, she learned how to operate big farm machines. In 1954, she graduated. She became one of the first Uzbek women trained to drive a cotton harvester.

A Career in Cotton Farming

In 1954, Tursunoy started working as a cotton harvester driver. She worked on a large farm called a collective farm. At first, she harvested about 20 tons of cotton in 1955. This was a good start, but she wanted to do even better.

Improving Cotton Harvests

Tursunoy worked hard to improve her skills. By 1959, she was harvesting an amazing 210 tons of cotton! Because of her high productivity, she received a very important award. It was called the Hero of Socialist Labor award. This award also came with the Order of Lenin.

Leading the Way

After her success, Tursunoy was promoted. She became a foreman, which means she led a team of workers. She pushed for more machines to be used in cotton farming. This helped make the work faster and easier for everyone.

A Voice in Politics

Tursunoy's hard work and dedication were noticed. In 1962, she became a deputy in the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. This was like being a member of parliament. She helped make important decisions for her country until 1974. In 1967, she received the Lenin Prize. This was for helping to bring in new, better cotton harvesting machines.

Continued Achievements

Tursunoy continued to achieve great things. In 1978, she received her second Hero of Socialist Labor award. This was for her amazing work in cotton production. She kept working as a foreman until she became too ill to continue. Tursunoy always encouraged other Uzbek women. She wanted them to learn how to drive cotton harvesters too. She was often featured in newspapers, inspiring many people. Tursunoy passed away on September 21, 1983, after a long illness.
