History of the Church
How the Church Started
The idea for this church came from a lady named Lady Amelia Shaw. She was the second wife of a famous person called Sir Robert Shaw, 1st Baronet. Lady Amelia had a schoolroom where she taught. In 1835, this schoolroom was officially registered as a place where people could gather for worship. This schoolroom was located exactly where the church hall stands today.
Building the First Chapel
After starting in a schoolroom, the community decided to build a proper church building. The very first chapel was built in 1844. This was a big step for the growing church community.
Expanding the Church Building
Later, in 1866, the church building was made much bigger. It was rebuilt and expanded significantly to welcome more people. This shows how the church continued to grow and become an important part of the Twickenham community over the years.
